Bring one thing you want to think about

It might be a message you haven't answered. An argument you keep remembering differently. Something you want to ask your partner but can't quite put into words.

You don't need a new notebook or a daily routine. Choose an exercise that fits what you need today, and leave the rest.

Writing can give you something to work with

If you're journalling, begin with a moment that stayed with you. What did you enjoy, what would you like more of, and is there something you wish you had said? Writing it down may help you find the words for your next conversation.

The private clarity exercise lets you do this in your browser. There are also journal prompts, an unsent-letter exercise and questions you can use for a relationship check-in. Suggested wording is there to help you begin... change it if you'd never say it that way.

You can stop for the evening

Sometimes you've thought about the same decision for long enough and you aren't getting anywhere. You may want to leave the message unsent, make something to eat and come back to it tomorrow.

The articles about pausing before contacting an ex and preparing for an evening alone offer practical ideas for those moments. You aren't committing to a rule for the rest of your life. You're deciding what would make this particular evening more manageable.
